Algebra II Regents: Top Topics to Master
Algebra II is often the most challenging of the three math Regents, but it rewards focused preparation. The exam blends functions, trigonometry, and statistics, and certain topics carry a lot of weight. Here's where to aim your study time.
Functions: polynomial, rational, exponential, log
Be fluent with the major function families and how they behave. Know the rules of exponents and logarithms cold — log/exponential questions appear every year and are very learnable once the rules are second nature. Practice transforming and interpreting graphs.
Trigonometry and the unit circle
Memorize the unit circle and understand radian measure, the trig functions, and graphing sine and cosine. Trig is a reliable source of points if you've drilled the fundamentals, and a major weak spot if you haven't.
Statistics and probability
The normal distribution, z-scores, simulations, and interpreting data are a meaningful part of the Algebra II exam. Learn to use your calculator for these — regression and normal-curve calculations are guaranteed points when you know the keystrokes.
Sequences, series, and modeling
Round out your prep with arithmetic and geometric sequences and series, complex numbers, and modeling real-world situations with functions. Show full work on the constructed-response parts to capture partial credit.
