The Living Environment Regents is one of the most-taken exams in New York, and it rewards students who focus on the right things. While the curriculum is broad, certain topics appear on nearly every exam. Master these and you've covered most of the test.
Cells and cell processes
Know your organelles and what they do, plus the big processes: photosynthesis, cellular respiration, diffusion, and active transport. Questions often ask you to connect structure to function or interpret a diagram, so understand the why, not just the labels.
Genetics and heredity
DNA, genes, mutations, and inheritance are exam staples. Be comfortable reading pedigrees and Punnett squares, and understand how traits pass from one generation to the next. This topic blends memorization with problem-solving, so practice both.
Ecology and energy flow
Food webs, energy pyramids, ecosystems, and how matter cycles through the environment come up every year. Practice reading data about populations and predicting what happens when one part of an ecosystem changes.
