Live in the Reference Tables
The ESRT is your best friend. A huge number of questions are solved by reading a chart, scale, or formula directly from it. Spend time before the exam knowing what's on every page so you can find answers fast under pressure. This single habit separates strong scores from weak ones.
Astronomy and Earth's motions
Understand the seasons, day/night, the Moon's phases, eclipses, and the apparent motion of objects in the sky. These cyclic patterns come up reliably and often involve diagrams you'll need to interpret.
Rocks, minerals, and plate tectonics
Know the rock cycle, how to identify minerals by their properties, and the big ideas of plate tectonics — earthquakes, volcanoes, and how plate boundaries shape the Earth. Practice reading the related ESRT charts.
Maps, weather, and Earth's history
Topographic (contour) maps and weather maps appear every year — practice reading them until it's automatic. Round it out with weathering and erosion, meteorology and climate, and geologic time. Don't skip the lab practical, which is part of your final score.
